About the Role

An exciting opportunity exists within the Financial Services unit for an experienced Financial Accounting Coordinator to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating the daily activities of the Financial Accounting function which includes Financial Accounting, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll and Utilities administration.

You will play an integral part in leading, motivating and developing our specialist team while building and maintaining positive relationships across our organisation.

As the successful candidate you will be CPA/CA qualified and tertiary qualified in Accounting or similar area with extensive leadership experience in developing high performing finance teams in a large complex environment.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Ensure that Council's financial obligations and services comply with statutory requirements and relevant Accounting Standards
  • Develop and maintain appropriate and effective policies, processes, procedures, systems and internal controls consistent with the principles of sound financial management, and to mitigate risks and ensure the integrity of Council's financial information
  • Lead the preparation of statutory financial statements and monthly reconciliations in accordance with quality and timeliness requirements and manage the engagement with the external audit function
  • Maintain effective policies, procedures and systems to ensure the compliance and integrity of Council's fixed assets accounting and assets register, including revaluations
  • Oversee the cash/investments portfolio and loan borrowing requirements including up to date knowledge of financial institutions and markets
  • Prepare reports for Management, Councillors, the Audit and Risk Committee and other audiences and make presentations as appropriate
  • Actively participate in internal and external audits and implement audit actions
  • Review and continuously improve systems and processes to achieve best practice customer service.

Skills and Experience

  • Substantial and diverse experience in a Senior Accounting role
  • CPA/CA qualified and tertiary qualified in Accounting or similar
  • Extensive experience leading and developing high performing Accounting teams in a large complex environment to achieve strategic outcomes
  • High level analytical skills, including the ability to develop innovative solutions to complex problems and present recommendations to executive management.
