- Salary $140-170,000 (dependent on experience) + 10% Superannuation + benefits (pro-rata if part time)

About the Role
A senior leader within the Legal, Governance and Risk portfolio, the Senior Legal Counsel will provide strategic, accurate and commercial legal advice to the CEO, Councilors and Senior Management on a range of issues relevant to a broad range of Council operations.
Reporting to the Chief Legal and Governance Officer, the Senior Legal Counsel will bring technical, specialist legal skills relevant to the Council’s operations but be resilient, capable and willing to develop a broad skill set working in a generalist in-house practice.
While advertised as a full-time role, applicants seeking a minimum 3 day working week will be considered.
Skills and Experience
- A high performing legal professional who is qualified as an Australian Legal Practitioner, eligible to hold a practicing certificate in the State of Victoria.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver accurate, concise and commercial legal advice.
- Strong knowledge, skills and ability in at least one area relevant to Council operations (including contracts and procurement, property, planning, administrative law or governance), who is willing and has the ability to adapt to deliver in a broad, generalist in house practice.
- Experience in establishing, coordinating and managing an external legal services panel, scoping instructions and managing external legal briefs.
- Able to act with a high level of authority and integrity, and develop and maintain effective working relationships with senior management.
- Strong customer and community service focus, with an evidenced commitment to timely and efficient service delivery.
