Exciting opportunity! Play a key role in supporting the Waste team by making a positive contribution to maintaining the cleanliness and general appearance of Council’s open space, nature strips, roads, car parks and right of ways.

Applicants must have experience in a similar role combined with the ability to provide quality customer service to multiple stakeholders. Your ability to display professionalism and motivation along with excellent oral and written communication skills will be highly valuable for this position.

About the Role

This is a rare opportunity to join our high-performing and close-knit Waste team!

As a Waste and Litter Response Officer, you will make a positive contribution to maintaining the cleanliness and general appearance of Council’s open space, nature strips, roads, car parks and right of ways.

This role minimises the impact and occurrence of dumped rubbish and litter throughout Manningham. You will:

  • Undertake waste and litter collection programs with an emphasis on resource recovery including:
    • Dumped waste and litter collection
    • Public open space and reserves cleaning
    • Activity centres
    • Dead animals
  • Promote a positive public image and customer focus when communicating with residents and business owners

Skills and Experience

  • A team player, committed to best practice and continuous improvement.
  • An individual with knowledge of the maintenance operations, practices and procedures relating to operating a garbage compactor.
  • Practical skills in the installation and maintenance of litter bins.
  • Ability to competently operate / drive the nominated plant, vehicles or equipment.
  • Has a high attention to detail and the skills to investigate complex requests.
  • Willingness to work towards continuous improvement.
  • Medium Rigid truck licence.
  • Experience in operating a waste compactor truck and other associated equipment.
  • Experience and ability to cope with offensive odours and dead animals.
  • Knowledge of safe work practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of work practices and procedures associated with asset maintenance and cleansing operations.
  • Flexible and able to respond to changing priorities and able to complete tasks within tight timeframes.
